On Saturday 8th January 2022, The Staffordshire band were crowned the winners of the First Section at Butlin’s Open Brass Band Festival in Skegness!
On a wet and very windy day in Skegness, the band took to the stage to perform our own choice test piece, Diversions on a Bass Theme by George Lloyd. Competing against just four other bands in our section, highlighted the struggles many bands have had during the Covid pandemic – a total of ten bands had to pull out of the contest.
Our performance received constructive praise from the contest adjudicator, Alan Morrison on the day and the band were delighted to be awarded first place.
“I can’t tell you how proud I am of the band…when I first started conducting the band, we had just 10 players, no money and no regular rehearsal space. Their dedication is incredible – we’ve had our ups and downs but the progress is always forward.”
