On the evening of Saturday 29th April saw the second of our two St George’s day and Kings coronation concerts, this time at St Martin’s church Walsall, which has become a favourite venue of the band in recent months – it being a lovely building with a warm welcome always received.
The programme kicked off with the dynamic and exciting Blenheim Flourishes by James Curnow, a writer of some repute and a favourite of the band since we played his ‘Trittico’ at the Nationals last year, putting in a respectable performance and being placed 3rd out of 16 quality bands on that occasion.
Also featured last evening was the quality PLC solo ‘With his First Breath’ played wonderfully by Bethan Brown on the Euphonium.
The eventual outing of Peter Graham’s Gaelforce was well received and enjoyed by audience and band alike.
Finishing of course with the traditional, indeed obligatory Jerusalem, I vow to Thee my country and Pomp and Circumstance, Land of Hope and Glory.
Many a flag did get waved last evening oh yeas…. And a good evening had by all.
