Andy started to learn to play brass instruments from 12 years old. He was originally taught by Reverend Steven Endsor at Bedworth Parish Church Band and by the esteemed Albert Chappell who was head of music at Ash Green High School, and conducted the highly successful City of Coventry Brass Band.

Andy played for Coventry Imperial (City of Coventry B Band) and for the main band for a short while, they won the British Open in 1981. He had a break for 3 years and then went on to play for Amington Brass Band on Flugel for 6 years. Andy moved to Rolls Royce (Coventry Band) in the mid 1990s, enjoying many Area contest wins and three National Finals appearances with them. In 1995 they became First Section champions and gained promotion to the Championship Section.

Later, the band became known as The Jaguar Coventry Band and eventually Jaguar Land Rover Band. They got to 15th in the World rankings at the end of 2016. Andy played flugel for them for 30 years. After the covid pandemic, he signed for The Staffordshire Band on the front row after having not played the cornet for nearly 37 years. He is proud to be a member of The Staffordshire Band.
