Neil started playing the trombone aged 8, and soon found himself playing with local music ensembles in his home city of Stoke-on-Trent. Aged 12, he began playing with Trentham Brass Band under the leadership of Mike Caveney. At the University of Birmingham, Neil spent two years as brass band manager overseeing the ensemble grow into full band and competing in the inaugural UniBrass contest in 2011, achieving 4th place and the ‘Best March’ prize. Whilst at University, Neil played with the City of Birmingham Brass Band on Bb tuba, before returning to Stoke-on-Trent where he played with Crewe Brass and Trentham Brass Band once again. Following relocation, Neil played with Amington Brass Band before joining the Staffordshire Band on trombone in 2021.
