Ed started playing aged 9 in 1977 with Arley Welfare Band, later known as Daw Mill Colliery Band and graduated to the senior band in 1979 on 2nd euphonium. He eventually moved to the Band of the Ancient Order of Foresters (Championship Section) in 1987 on 2nd Euphonium, sitting next to Leigh Baker. He later played solo Euphonium with Bedworth Brass. He was Musical Director with Burbage Silver Band before joining The Staffordshire Band in 2013.
