On Saturday 26th February, The Staffordshire Band became Midlands Area champions in the First Section!

After a whole year of being unable to take part in any area contests due to the covid pandemic, the band travelled to The Cube in Corby to compete in the Midlands Area competition. We were drawn to play band number 6 out of 16 on the day and gave a solid performance of Spectrum by Gilbert Vinter under the adjudication of Alan Morrison and Chris King.

Alan Morrison wrote in his remarks that in “a performance of stature” there was “so much to commend as you searched for the colours and styles of each section”, whilst Chris King added that overall it had been “a very good performance indeed on a very tough piece”.

Winning the contest means that the band qualifies alongside runners up, Gresley Colliery Band to compete at the National Finals held in Cheltenham in September.

“This is a band full of good, honest people wanting to play together. I’ve asked a lot of them, but they just give me everything and more…We are looking forward to giving our all at the National Finals in September.”
