On the evening of Saturday 29th October, it was an honour and a privilege for the band to perform at St Editha’s Church, Tamworth to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Tamworth branch of the Royal British Legion.
The event was both moving and emotional, with the band performing a programme of remembrance to a full audience, including a heart rendering performance of Edward Elgar’s Nimrod from Enigma Variations.
The Mayor of Tamworth, Moira Greatorex was in attendance and even accompanied on a deep horn during the service. Awards were given out, the first to Elsie Jennings on behalf of her son, Andrew Jennings who has performed the Last Post for the past 41 years at remembrance services in the town. The second award went to Peter Watterson in recognition of his 40 years service to the Tamworth branch.
The band would like to thank Ray Jennings for inviting the band to play at the celebrations and Tina Clements, the Chairman of the branch for organising the event seamlessly – we look forward to future collaborations with the Royal British Legion.
