On Saturday 7th May 2022, the band competed in the Senior Trophy as part of the Spring Festival held at The Winter Gardens, Blackpool. Despite being unable to impress the adjudicators on the day, a fantastic weekend was had by all meeting up with old friends and making new ones!
Due to our success at Bolsover Festival of Brass in 2021, the band received an invite to compete in the Senior Trophy. The chosen test piece, Life Divine by Cyril Jenkins, was certainly a challenge and a piece that tested each band within every aspect of sound and technique.
On the day, we drew seventh band to play out of twenty two bands in total and we took to the stage for our performance in the Spanish Ballroom. Unfortunately we failed to impress the adjudicators, Sandy Smith and Simon Gresswell on the day but you can’t win prizes all the time!
A particular highlight of the weekend was meeting and staying with Jean Martyn, our fabulous host, at her hotel, The Jean Martyn Hotel in Blackpool. Jean is a very talented organist, pianist and composer, and was a finalist on Britain’s Got Talent. She even treated us to our very own concert the morning after the contest! Thanks Jean for your hospitality and we are looking forward to our joint concert in 2023!
