About The Band
The Staffordshire Band was originally formed as The Walsall Wood Institute Temperance Band in the 1900s and became The Staffordshire Band in 1998.
The band has enjoyed significant success over the years, including several appearances at the Royal Albert Hall in the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. More recent prize-winning performances include, Butlins Mineworkers Contest (winners of the First Section); Midlands Area Contest (winners of the First Section); National Championships of Great Britain (Third place in First Section) and Bolsover Festival of Brass (Third place in Championship and First Sections).
In addition to continuing to strive for excellence on the contest stage, the band is dedicated to providing top class entertainment to our local community and the wider West Midlands area. Our concert series encompasses a wide variety of music, with something for everyone – from the general listener through to aficionados of the brass band movement.
Looking to the future, we are aiming to build on our youth initiatives, with the wheels firmly in motion to create a Staffordshire Youth Band. This will involve the bringing together of young players from across the West Midlands to nurture and develop their skills on a regular basis.
